PROJECTS WITH UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITIES

OAXACA, MEXICO 2017-2018
SERVICES
OUR CHALLENGE

We need to improve the drying process of a local mesquite flour producer to enable them to grow, provide jobs, and fund future community initiatives

OUR COMMUNITY

We will be working closely with our nonprofit partner Tejiendo Alianzas  and stakeholders in the community of Santiago Suchilquitongo outside of Oaxaca, Mexico.

OUR PLAN

We will be designing, prototyping, and implementing a solar oven that fulfills the community's temperature, humidity, cost, and time requirements for the production of mesquite flour.

ABOUT THE TEAM

 WE CHANGE THE WORLD.

ENGINEERING A BETTER FUTURE BY DESIGNING WITH PURPOSE

We are Projects with Underserved Communities Team Mexico 2018, a student-lead team of engineering and social work students from the University of Texas at Austin. For the next 8 months, we will be working with a non-profit organization called Tejiendo Alianzas, community leaders in Santiago Suchilquitongo, Mexico, and contractors in Oaxaca to implement a mesquite flour dryer project that will ultimately improve the economic stability of the local community.

 EMPOWER OUR GROWTH.

In order to successfully prototype and implement our project, we raised $15,000 in the month of November alone to cover material costs and contractor technical support. Other donations will continue to support our work in Mexico as we work with the community over the next couple of years.
