INTRODUCTION
Projects with Under-served Communities, or PUC, is a unique program at the University of Texas at Austin combines the two challenges of community need and student enrichment in an innovative project-based, service-learning collaboration between the International Office, the Cockrell School of Engineering, and the School of Social Work. Students in the PUC program learn project management, scope and change management, risk assessment, and construction principles and apply them in an international setting as they work with local communities to define, design, and implement engineering projects.
Since its conception in 2010, PUC has collaborated with communities in Peru, Ghana, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Tanzania, Thailand, Papua New Guinea and India. In summer 2018, PUC will send its first team to Mexico to work with the community of Santiago Suchilquitongo to implement a solar dryer.
